A Night to Remember: Follies Recap 2024
This year's audiences saw new contenders, energetic performances, and special appearances.
The evening of Friday, October 25 concluded Mississippi College’s 39th annual Follies. One of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year, Follies requires months of preparation from each club and tribe on campus as they compete against each other for the winning performance.
This year, first place went to Laguna Social Tribe for their performance of Grease. Kokoa Men’s Club received second place with Ghostbusters, and Civitan Men’s Club received third place with Back to the Future.
Outstanding performers this year included Elle Woods from Kissimee Social Tribe’s production of Legally Blonde, Winifred Sanderson from Swannanoa Social Tribe’s production of Hocus Pocus, Mantis from Decerto Mens Club’s production of Kung Fu Panda, Danny from Laguna’s Grease, the Ghostbusters of Kokoa’s Ghostbusters, and Marty McFly of Civitan’s Back to the Future.
The Spirit of Follies award went to Shawreth Men’s Club, and the Committee's Choice award went to Kokoa Men’s Club. The 2024 Tribe Favorite award went to Laguna, while the 2024 Club Favorite award went to Kokoa.
“I thought the shows were fantastic this year,” said Carrigan Crowe, Laguna Follies co-chair and Follies performer. “The themes, the music, the dancing, and all of the fun energy made for two great nights of performances.”
Although each organization brought their own highlights to the evening, there were a few moments that stood out above the rest. One such highlight was the traditional Kissimee baby beau reveal. Each year, Kissimee Social Tribe announces their new baby beau through their show, and this year was no different. They revealed Will Meyer to be their newest beau.
The night also contained several special appearances. MC professor and Civitan sponsor Dr. Christopher Weeks starred as Doc in Back to the Future, and MC’s mascot Tushka featured in Nenamoosha Social Tribe’s production of Mean Girls.
“My favorite thing about Follies is seeing how each organization shows off the hard work that they’ve put into their show,” said Becca Stennett, a senior who has been both a participant and spectator during her time at MC. “I enjoy getting to see each organization show off their unique personalities through their performances.”
With the conclusion of this year’s Follies, students can now look forward to and prepare for the celebration of Mississippi College’s 40th annual Follies in 2025.
