Career Development Hosts Annual Race for Career Day
The MC Office of Career Development’s annual event featured a one mile fun run, giveaways, and raffles.
The Race for Career Day was held Monday, Feb. 19. Competitors wore business attire on top and athletic wear on the bottom. The race started at 5 p.m. on Nelson Drive, where participants chose to walk or run the one mile.
Competitor Preston Speed talks to a Fleet Feet representative about shoe soles. Fleet Feet set up a tent at 4:30 p.m., bringing their On Clouds selection for runners to try during the race. The first female and male participant to cross the finish line received a free pair of shoes. There was also a raffle for a free pair of shoes, which was won by Caroline Perry.
Caroline Schumpert, Kaitlyn Hamilton, Emerson Carmean, and Keith Johnson pose for a picture in half-business attire. All four work in Career Services as peer mentors, and they helped organize and run the Race for Career Day.
Several cross country runners, wearing the On Cloud shoes, pace the race’s male winner, Causey Simmons. Simmons sported a leopard print shirt for the occasion.
Charlie Hight and Victor Yen, members of Civitan and Kokoa respectively, race each other for the last stretch of the mile. Many members of clubs and tribes entered the race to gain points for their organization towards Club/Tribe of the Year.
Marshall Reeves, a member of Decerto, walked the event to earn his club points.
The event had a table of free loaded teas and socks for all participants. The tea came from Spring Nutrition, which has a deal with the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Part of the proceeds of the yellow teas went back to the committee.
