Clinton Comes Together to Celebrate the Start of Spring
The Caterpillar Parade is a small-town tradition for children, parents, and other community members.
Main Street Clinton hosted the annual Caterpillar Parade on the Brick Streets on April 13. Parents and children from all across the city of Clinton came out to the celebration at Lion’s Club Park to commemorate the start of spring.
Clintonian Janie Fields read the “Very Hungry Caterpillar” on the Atmos Stage to start the event.
Two representatives from Mississippi College were a part of this celebration. Firstly, the parade’s Grand Marshal was Jonathan Nutt, Assistant Director of Students, who led the procession for all of the community to see. Nutt led the parade in a golf cart decorated with brightly colored balloons.
Secondly, Dr. Laurie Lawson, who is the Chair of the Department of Sociology and Social Work at MC, was named Caterpillar Queen. Lawson was honored to receive the award. “This speaks volumes on so many levels because it shows that I’m considered part of this great community,” Lawson said. Lawson was joined on stage by previous Caterpillar Queens who showed their support as Lawson received her crown before the parade.
Jase Chamblee and JT McNamee, from back to front, represented the MC band during the parade.
Percussion members of the Clinton High School Marching Band came together to entertain the audience with parade tunes.
