Fifty Years of the Clinton Chamber Christmas Parade
The enduring Christmas tradition holds meaning for many.
For 49 years, the city of Clinton has gathered along the streets to watch the Clinton Chamber Christmas Parade. This tradition will continue on Saturday, December 7 at 10:00 a.m., as the community comes together to celebrate the 50th annual parade. The parade signifies the beginning of the holiday season as clubs, bands, organizations, schools, churches, and even Santa Claus march throughout the city with cars, floats, and, of course, candy.

“I think that it is incredible to see traditions last this long and continue to impact the city of Clinton,” said Oliver Gibbs, who will play Joseph in First Baptist Clinton’s nativity scene. “I think the Christmas parade is one of those events that really kicks off the Christmas season in Clinton as a community.”
The parade is a highly anticipated event that excites the entire community. Whether participating in the parade, working behind the scenes, or viewing from the sidewalks, adults and children alike are excited to be a part of the celebration.
“I just love the sense of community,” said Jill Sanchez, a member of the Mississippi College Choctaw Marching Band who will be marching. “I believe that the Christmas parade is a great tradition that showcases the livelihood and warmth of its people.”
While the city comes together to experience the same event each year, the parade holds a special and personal meaning for each individual, drawing them back year after year. For the people of First Baptist Clinton, the parade is an opportunity to share the gospel of Christ through their nativity. “This is my first year participating in the parade,” Gibbs said. “I look forward to participating in the parade with others from my church as we seek to share the love of Christ with those in Clinton.”
For others, the parade is an opportunity to reconnect with friends from other parts of town. “I’m a Clinton native,” Sanchez said. “I’m super excited to see my friends from different schools like CHS and Hinds.”

No matter the reason, the Clinton Chamber Christmas Parade is an integral part of many families’ Christmas festivities. Bringing everyone together, it is an exciting way to begin the Christmas season. “It’s a great tradition that gets everyone in the community involved,” Sanchez said. “I hope people see just how warm and friendly the people of Clinton are.”
