Six-time Grammy-winning Christian recording artist Amy Grant was the keynote speaker at the MC Foundation’s annual Scholarship Banquet on April 30th. Grant sang two of her songs and answered questions from moderator and WLBT news anchor Maggie Wade.
“We wanted to celebrate our students and raise funds for these scholarships with more focus than usual on music,” MC Foundation Executive Director Katrina Pace.
MC alumni and former congressman Gregg Harper was in attendance. Harper is a fan of Grant’s and loved the interview and musical performances.
“I loved her message tonight from the closing song, ‘Trees We’ll Never See’,” Harper said. “People have done things that have helped me in my life when I didn’t even know them at the time. What we’re doing today is planting those seeds as Dr. Blake Thompson said. We have a responsibility to lead others to Christ. So, it was a special time.”
Grant was not the only musical talent performing at the banquet. A group of MC students sang the worship song “Abide,” and country trio Daves Highway provided music during dinner.
“We’re loaded with great musical talent from this state,” Harper said. “We were blessed to be able to hear those songs and messages with almost a hymn-like quality. It was very uplifting.”
