The Mississippi College Jazz Band annually performs at the Eudora Welty House and Garden to an audience of people in the middle of the fall semester. The concert, which was held this year on Thursday, October 17, is available to people of all ages. During the performance, audience members are invited to tour the grounds and grab refreshments, such as popcorn, lemonade, and pies and other refreshments from Urban Foxes.
The MC Jazz Band arrives at the Eudora Welty House and Garden to start setting up their instruments and organizing music.
The audience starts to gather on the front lawn with blankets and lawn chairs. Guests were served popcorn and lemonade.
After setting up, the band’s rhythm section starts to warm up, beginning a run-through of their music.
The property manager of the Eudora Welty House and Garden, Anna Nordin, breaks the ice by introducing the jazz band.

Jazz band director Wayne Linenhan opens the concert with an introduction of the band. The show began at 6:00 p.m.
Soloist Jared Brownlee kicks off the performance. The MC Jazz Band began with their first song, "Mulligan Stew."
The MC Jazz Band plays a set of upbeat music. The first set consisted of performances like “Django” and “Madrid.” Between songs, Linenhan also took time to introduce each student in different sections of the jazz band.
Soloist Jason Bridges plays his baritone saxophone to a tune called “Deep Purple.”
Salvant plays the keyboard in the rhythm section of the Jazz Band for a stretch of songs.
During the intermission following the first half of the performance, guests explore Eudora Welty’s garden.
The MC Jazz Band picks back up with the second half of their performance.
The Jazz Band performs for the audience after dusk. The band ended with their final song, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.”
