Main Street Clinton Kicks Off Fall with Market and Pet Parade

The charming event showcased Clinton's furry friends & local vendors.

On Saturday, October 12, dozens of vendors lined the Brick Streets for Main Street Clinton’s Fall for Clinton Market and Pet Parade.

The annual event is one of several that occur in downtown Clinton during home football game weekends. Tara Lytal, director of Main Street Clinton, says that the market is aimed at encouraging MC students to explore what Clinton has to offer just outside campus.

“It’s one of the most fun events that we do, mainly because we have the pet parade,” Lytal said. “It’s a great kickoff to fall! People look forward to it. We usually have about 60-65 vendors, and then all the pets come out and we do a pet blessing. It’s sponsored by Chick-fil-A, and it’s just great family fun.”

The pet parade began at Cups and proceeded down Jefferson Street, where Reverend Rob Blanton, priest at the Episcopal Church of the Creator, offered a blessing for the pets. Following the blessing, awards were presented to parade participants in various categories, including Biggest Pet, Smallest Pet, and Best Costume. Winners received cow trophies from the local Chick-fil-A in Clinton.

11-year-old Camille Cade of Clinton won Best Owner/Pet Look Alike. Cade and her dog, Piper, both dressed in pink cowgirl outfits inspired by her love of riding horses.

“I enjoyed the parade, because it’s a great opportunity for the dogs to be together,” Cade said. “You get to spend time with your dog and you get to see all the other dogs dressed up and get to be friends.”

Sophomore kinesiology major Christian Parks was among the many MC students at the event, and as a dog owner, he especially enjoyed the pet parade.

“I just like seeing all the dogs in their costumes,” Parks said. “It’s kinda funny. There was just a lot of different dogs.”
