MC Alumna Jenny Tate Becomes VP of Marketing and Communications
The position brings Tate back to her beloved alma mater.
2006 Mississippi College alumna Jenny Tate is returning to make an impact as MC’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
From northeast Mississippi, 18-year-old Tate attended MC for her undergraduate communications degree. She then received her master’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
“I loved my time at MC,” Tate said. “MC, when I was a student, formed some of my strongest friendships. So many of the friends I made as an undergraduate student are still my friends today, so I have a strong sense of place when it comes to Mississippi College. Mississippi College also, through mutual friends, led me to an introduction to my husband.”
“MC just has a special place in my heart, beginning from the time I was a student here,” Tate continued.
Tate was active in several different campus organizations. She was involved in Laguna Social Tribe, Lambda Pi Eta, the campus radio station, and executive leadership with the Student Government Association, and she acted as a student worker in the School of Business for some time, all while attending classes as a full-time student.
Tate started her new role on campus as the Vice President of Marketing and Communications on September 3rd of this semester. “I’m in a process of serving, evaluating, and assessing right now,” Tate said. “I’m in a learning phase – there’s a lot that I need to learn about Mississippi College and the institution as a whole.”
Faculty and staff have welcomed Tate. “As a student, I had a lot of really positive interactions with my faculty, and I know that remains true today from what I’ve just seen and observed in a few weeks,” said Tate. “Faculty at MC cares so much about students being successful in the classroom and beyond, which is another reason why MC is so special.”
With more than ten years of experience in the higher education communications field, Tate believes that one of the assets she brings to her role at Mississippi College is experience.
“I’ve worked for public communications higher education institutions like [University of Southern Mississippi and University of South Carolina] ... I also bring some experience with MC because I was a student here, so I’m familiar with some of the places and some of the individuals on campus as well,” Tate said.
“For me, one of the reasons why I came back to Mississippi College to be an employee here is that MC helped mold me into the person that I am today and higher education has the potential to do that for young people,” Tate said. “For me, my time as a college student was transformative—so for me, I wanted to come back and give back to the institution that means so much to me.”
Tate remains grateful to MC for the chance to be engaged on campus and the opportunities that would prepare her for the next phase of her life. She hopes to offer similar opportunities to current and prospective students of MC.
