MC Baseball Falls Short in Shorter Series
The team lost their first game 7-11 and battled back to win the second game 11-8, but they fell short in the last game, losing 6-11.
The Choctaw baseball team’s record went to 13-14 after this weekend's series against Shorter University. The team lost their first game 7-11 and battled back to win the second game 11-8, but they fell short in the last game, losing 6-11.
Beau Kirsch led the team at the plate with three hits during game one, in which MC led Shorter 12-10 in hits. During the weekend’s first match-up, Shorter had four strikeouts to MC’s two. Shorter stole three bases while MC was unable to steal any.
In game two, the Choctaws took a quick lead, going up 5-0 by the end of the second inning. Bryce LaRocca and Caleb Reese led MC in hits with two apiece, with both teams amassing eight hits each. Shorter made a push at the bottom of the ninth with four runs, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to overthrow the lead the Choctaws established early on.
In game three, Shorter flipped the script on the Choctaws. They quickly got ahead, making the score 7-0 in just two innings. While the Choctaws battled back in the later innings, it was not enough. Cole Drake, JT Vance, and Wesley Sides all had two hits apiece in the third game.
Following this past weekend, the team is now 5-10 in conference play. However, the Choctaws still have four weeks of play left. So far, Vance has been awarded South Region Player of the Week twice this season. Along with Sides, he has also been the GSC Player of the Week. Holland Townes has also earned the Gulf South Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
The Choctaws are set for a busy week of travel as they play Henderson State on Tuesday, followed by a series against West Alabama on Friday and Saturday.
