MC Men’s Tennis Team Takes On the Sunshine Conference
The team faced tough losses in Orlando during the first half of spring break.
The Mississippi College men’s tennis team traveled to Orlando, Fla, to improve their regional ranking. They took on four teams from the Sunshine Conference. The Choctaws were defeated by all four. The team played Embry-Riddle on Saturday, March 9, Rollins on Monday, March 11, and Florida Southern on Tuesday, March 12, losing all 3 matches 2-4. They lost their final match against St. Leo on Wednesday, March 13 1-6.
Alvaro Saint Martin and Walker Ellis exchanged a hug after Saint Martin defeated the line three from Embry-Riddle. Ellis acted as Saint Martin’s on-court player coach. Saint Martin’s win brought the team score to 2-3. His individual score was 6-4, 6-7, 6-2.
Felipe Iser cheered on Antoine Nivault during Nivault’s line six singles match against Embry-Riddle. Nivault lost the match in a second set tiebreak.
Sergio Ramirez switched sides of the court during his Embry-Riddle match at line five. He did not finish his match; Embry-Riddle clinched it early.
Alex Benichou hit a slice backhand in his match against Rollins. Benichou was playing line one, where he ended up winning the match 6-3, 6-3.
Saint Martin hits a one-handed backhand in his match against Rollins. Rollins took the victory before Saint Martin was able to finish the match.
Ramirez hit a forehand volley in his match against Rollins Monday. Ramirez lost the match at line five 1-6, 5-7 making the team score at the time 1-3.
Benichou hit a jumping forehand in his match Monday, March 11 against Rollins. This was the second match of the trip. Benichou bounced back from a loss on Saturday, winning this match 6-3, 6-3.
Rafeal Sabio hit a backhand volley during his match against Rollins on Monday, March 11. Sabio lost this match after coming back from 1-5 in a tiebreaker 6-4, 2-6, 6-7(8).
