MC Sets to Release Rebrand at Homecoming
As students and alumni gather together, the weekend will bring renewed relationships and a new future for Mississippi College into focus.
A journey of rebranding Mississippi College that started in 2018 is now coming to a head this month as the institution will be releasing the new brand at its external launch at homecoming on Oct. 29, 2022, under the slogan of “Blue and Gold Forever Rising”.
Last year, a branding project directed by Carnegie Dartlet engaged more than 1,000 employees, students, and alumni in focus groups and listening workshops. MC has used that research data to re-work all admissions material.
“In the past Mississippi College has been unsure on how to tell its story, and the reason is because they have never identified on paper and said ‘this is who we are,’ and that is what Carnegie Dartlet did,” said Tracey Harrison, Associate Vice President for Marketing and Communication at MC. “They helped us do the research and present the data in a way that we can say confidently, ‘This is who we are,’ and now we can tell that story, it gives us a roadmap of communication.”
The hope of this project is to define MC’s sense of self and story for decades to come. The main goal of this research was for MC to be able to create a strong, consistent message across all platforms. In the final reveal by Carnegie Dartlet, Mississippi College exists to “Empower authentic excellence to inspire the world through the passion, strength, and visionary leadership of our students.”
At the convocation at the beginning of the 2022 fall semester, a new logo and brand were released to faculty and staff. During the convocation, President Blake Thompson explained the meaning behind the new brand and how the school will be changing.
“A brand is the unique personality and values that set a company – or in our case – an institution apart from the competition,” Thompson said. “It helps us to tell our story to new and expanded audiences. A strong brand highlights the differences between MC and any other university and tells students, families, faculty members, and our supporters what they can expect from us. In short, the MC brand is MC’s promise.”
This new slogan to represent the university will be: “Mississippi College is about the joyful pursuit of Christ in every field of study, a university where people are lifted higher to reach their God-given potential.”
As a part of homecoming, the campus will also celebrate and solidify a renewed relationship with the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
“Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben is receiving the Order of the Golden Arrow award at homecoming, and I am thankful that we will have built and will launch this brand with the Chief at homecoming,” Thompson said. Ben is a 2001 graduate of Mississippi College who played on the football team.
