MC Welcomes Hundreds of Potential Students to Campus
Many prospective students toured MC's campus on Sat., March 2.
Hundreds of prospective students and their families toured Mississippi College’s campus on Saturday for Preview Day, looking to get a taste of what to expect from MC.
Guest Experience Coordinator Carly Fisher organized the event and is hoping to recruit a wide variety of students for the fall semester.
“We have about 500 who came today,” Fisher said. “We’re so excited. There’s obviously still a lot of interest in MC due to the Speed Scholarship. We’re also trying to push out of state recruiting this year to make sure we’re getting those Mississippi residents from the Speed Scholarship, as well as plenty of out of state students.”
The event kicked off with an academic marketplace, where prospective students were able to speak with representatives from the departments they are interested in joining. This was followed by a welcome from MC President Dr. Blake Thompson and a student panel. Guests then split into groups for campus tours and mock classes.
In the Department of Communication, Department Chair Dr. Reid Vance held a roundtable discussion in Aven’s Mary Catherine Gentry conference room. One of the students in attendance was Elizabeth Lenow, a junior from Clinton High School interested in a concentration in Digital Media Production.
“I got a lot of my questions answered,” Lenow said. “I also learned that internships are a way to add to my portfolio and increase my job opportunities.”
Another preview day is scheduled for April 9.
