Recruitment Kicks Off
Rain or shine, a growing class of incoming MC students will seek club & tribe membership over the next week.
On Thursday, September 5, Mississippi College’s 2024 Block Party kicked off Recruitment with a sneak peek of the campus’ ten clubs and tribes. Due to inclement weather, the event was moved from the Brick Streets to Anderson Hall.
At the event, incoming MC students had the opportunity to meet with members from various organizations and build connections. This year’s recruitment theme is the Olympics, with each club and tribe selecting an Olympic sport as their tailgate theme.
When asked about what drew them to participate in Recruitment, students cited the richness of MC’s community. “For me, it's the community that draws me,” said freshman Rhyser Guynes. “I’ve known guys and girls at MC, and they all talk about how Recruitment brought them so many brothers and sisters they couldn’t imagine living without. So naturally, I’ve already been on board to meet people.”
Other students expressed their excitement about this year’s Recruitment. “I look forward to seeing which club I fit the best into, and meeting a bunch of new people,” said freshman Jace Denson.
“I’m now looking forward to meeting as many people as I can, and finding that brotherhood my friends have told me about,” said Guynes. “I’m a relational person, so getting to learn about all these people makes me giddy.”
On Thursday, September 10, Recruitment continued with the Twilight Tailgate, which was hosted on the Quad. New students were given an opportunity to continue learning about the campus’ clubs and tribes. Recruitment continued with the annual Coke Parties on Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13. Interest Cards, potential new members’ first official opportunity to express interest in an organization, opened at 10:00pm on Friday, September 13.
Students continued to show their enthusiasm for Recruitment. “I look forward to meeting new people and developing strong friendships, clubs that help me build myself better, and having fun with whoever I meet,” said freshman Dalton Orgeron.
Students are hopeful they will find a strong sense of community and involvement through this year’s Recruitment. As the final week of Recruitment unfolds, several events will take place throughout campus. Be sure to check MC’s website and Instagram for updates regarding any upcoming events.
