School of Business Hosts Luncheon to Promote Faith, Ethics in Business
After opening the Center for Faith, Service, and Ethics, MC's School of Business seeks to help students merge their education and faith.
MC’s School of Business held its Faith and Ethics Luncheon, which featured several notable speakers who brought a Christ-focused message to MC business students. At this event, students learned how to make their faith and business ventures collide in a way that glorifies God.
MC School of Business Dean Dr. Marcelo Eduardo formally opened the event with prayer and spoke briefly about the Center for Faith, Service, and Ethics, a program newly established at the School of Business. Director of the Center and professor of accounting Dr. Billy Morehead followed up on the subject, providing a thorough introduction to what the Center is and how it has developed since its introduction last semester. Morehead spoke on the centrality of Christ to the Center, which is intended to be a medium for the School of Business to follow the call of the Great Commission.
Next, a panel discussion on the subject of faith and business ethics was held between four panelists and moderated by accounting professor Steven Mulhollen. The panelists included M4 employee Jessica Graves, Wray Enterprises CEO Rita Wray, Global Maritime Ministries director Philip Vandercook, and But God Ministries founder Stan Buckley. The panelists each shared their unique perspectives on the intersections of business and faith.
After a lunch break, Mississippi senator Robin Robinson delivered the luncheon’s keynote address. Robinson has been a lifelong community leader, education advocate, and prominent businesswoman for the state. The panelists, as well as the keynote address, expressed a need in the workplace for individuals to mark themselves as belonging to Christ through their actions, words, and performance.
The Faith and Ethics Luncheon was the premier event of the School of Business’ annual Faith and Business Ethics Week. True to the mission of the school and the Center, students and faculty alike had the opportunity to network and learn how to be faithful in a business environment from prominent Mississippi business leaders.
